Self-Help Art
Author of this post: Johanna Lenander | About Blog Authors »“Don’t Worry – Be Curious!” is one of the most wonderful titles of an art exhibition I’ve ever come across. Art has many shapes and forms and purposes (or sometimes none) and at its best it has the ability to open our eyes and see to the world differently. Sometimes that means being made aware of pain and injustice that we have previously ignored, and sometimes it means seeing beauty and possibility in our daily grind.
The premise of this exhibition is the assumption that art can offer new impulses and inspire new perspectives. As our globalized world is getting increasingly complicated and unstable, there is a strong sense of disenchantment and distrust as people in the Western world face growing unemployment, recession, outsourcing of jobs and social upheaval. Invited are artists whose practice is based on the exploration of their social environment. They will present photographs, videos, and installations that address problems and fears resulting from upheavals in present-day society. All the works express a positive and often humorous prevailing mood that makes the observer want to engage in something new and scrutinize his or her own patterns of perception and thought. Sounds like the next best thing to Eckhart Tolle.
The physical exhibition opens on Friday in Monaco but you can see pictures and read about the inspiring works here
