Cast Your Vote For Eternal Beauty

For those of us who get more excited by a Moroso sofa than a Miss Universe contestant in a bikini, there is finally a beauty pageant to get involved in.

Pulchra is the world’s first beauty contest devoted exclusively to objects. Its website features 100 particularly well-designed objects – ranging from kitchen sinks to ski boots- that will be judged by the public in an open voting process that will go on until the end of the year.

At the closing of the voting, the hundred objects chosen for the contest will be ranked on a scale of one to one hundred, according to the number of votes received by each of the items.
The top ten items on these rankings will be the winners of the contest. The winner of the voting competition will be awarded a prize of 10,000 euros in gold coins.

But the project doesn’t end there. Pulchra aims to create a treasure trove for future archaeologists by sending the ten winning objects on a “journey in time”. This means that they will be stored in a waterproof metal capsule and buried in the grounds of a park underneath a designer garden.

Year by year, as Pulchra contests are repeated, a mosaic of gardens will signal the presence of this invisible museum of “beauty in our time”. I wonder what anthropological meaning will be assigned to the Philippe Starck orange juice press in 2347.
