We all know how important it is to stay in touch with what’s new in design and we all know how hard it is to keep track of it all. That’s when I.D.’s Annual Design Review comes to the rescue. The magazine gives you a short cut to the most innovative design of 2007 in their 54th (that’s right, they’ve been around that long) Annual Design Review issue and real-life exhibition. The list features 130 outstanding examples of work in a variety of design categories, selected by prominent experts in the field. The current categories include consumer products, graphics, packaging, environments, furniture, equipment, concepts and interactive media.

fuseproject’s NYC Condom Project was honored in the Concept category.
This year’s Graphics honorees, as selected by judges Carin Goldberg (designer), Chris Dixon (design director, New York magazine) and Bobby C Martin Jr., (senior design manager Nokia) include the Beatles stamps by Johnson Banks, The New York Times Building graphics by Pentagram Design and the By A Meter promotion by Project M (mentioned here in Brockett Horne’s recent post), among others.

The best packaging category was selected by Stephen Burks (design director, Readymade projects), Kevin Smith of Giampetro + Smith and Paulina Reyes, (senior designer, Kate Spade LLC) and features the likes of Puma’s PT3 Ultramagnetic table tennis collection by Aruliden, Johnson & Johnson’s interlocking Band-Aid pods and the limited edition packaging for Rado Ceramica by Jasper Morrison.

Among the top web sites, which were chosen by Khoi Vinh, design director NYTimes.com (see our recent interview), Brett Wickens, VP and creative director MetaDesign and Amit Pitaru, interactive designer, are Picnik.com by Peter Roman, Bimik-Picnik.com, Apple.com and Bugaboodaytrips.com by 72andSunny.
This year, I.D. magazine has teamed up with Parsons School of Design who will host the show in their new Shelia C. Johnson Design Center from July 9 - September 28. There will also be panel discussions hosted by some of the designers scheduled in some time in September.
