Time For What You Love

This week, I’ve been trading e-mails with Peleg Top, a designer in Los Angeles. I first met Peleg ages ago at a HOW Conference, and over the years we’ve become friends. Peleg was telling me that, after pondering the things he really loves to do—cooking, photography, music—he realized that he was spending absolutely zero time on any of them. So he recently took a major step toward his longtime goal of becoming a chef: He enrolled in The Kitchen Academy in Los Angeles, and he’s started a blog about his experience (http://www.thetopkitchen.com). All this while he continues to run his successful design studio. That’s right: He goes to culinary school at 6:00 a.m., and by noon is at his drawing board. I asked him how he does it, and he sent me this article: How to Become an Early Riser about getting up early … really early. Is there anything you love doing so much that you’d gratefully get up at the crack of dawn?

I was so happy when Peleg told me he was going to culinary school! The lesson of making time for things you love is one that I’ve had to learn the hard way as well – the busier I get with my studio, the less time I end up making for things like travel, yoga, journaling and cooking – things that I’m as passionate about (if not MORE passionate about) as design. After a while, though, it catches up to you. I realized a few weeks ago that, even though the business was thriving and I was really happy, I felt completely stagnant. It wasn’t until I started making non-negotiable time for yoga and cooking (instead of working 12 hours a day, which is VERY easy for me to do) that I finally started getting into a groove again. Now I’m super-productive, and I still get to set aside an hour a day for yoga, and I cook most of my meals instead of eating leftovers or take-out. It’s much better this way.

    Hi,
The article “How to become an early riser” that Peleg had sent you is very interesting article. After reading this article I feel that my interest level has increased up to some extent to do more than one work at a time. I just like to say, if you have special interest to do any work then nothing can come in your way. If you want you can manage everything simultaneously.

This is a great article, and I think a lot of us are guilty of not devoting enough time to our hobbies, I know I certainly am!

I have gone through Peleg’s article “How to become an early riser” and after reading this article I have really got some inspiration that how you should consistently work towards achieving your objective. If you have keen desire to do something then nothing can come on your way and you will definitely be able to achieve that. So, come on guys… try to do your work with sheer perfection and dedication.
