OP,

You're welcome! I mentioned a few books at the end of this article when I originally wrote it (gosh, it's been two years!). In the mean time, I co-authored a migration reference for O'Reilly whose aim is to gently guide developers from AS2 to AS3. It isn't an OOP reference per se, but if should help anyone already comfortable with AS2 who finds the switch baffling. The first half of the book is basically written as a "fireside chat," and the second half of the book is organized like a typical O'Reilly cookbook.

Thanks for this. Switching between different versions of design programs can be such a pain. Your idea to continue using an older version if necessary while learning OOP makes the life of a designer much easier, especially those who need to use such versions as AS2 or AS1. Like you pointed out, eventually everyone will need to make the switch to AS3, and knowing OOP will make the switch that much easier.

thanks so much david for sharing your knowledge. i've been attempting to acquaint myself with AS3 and have found it difficult to source instructional info (even with the purchase of a book) that doesn't quickly become confusing. your blogs are a breath of fresh air. thanks again

Thanks for making things like this clear and for taking the time to write and explain flash at your blog site. It's helped me get through the fork in some of my projects.

Sarah,

Thanks! Glad to hear it. :) Whatever route you take, whatever version(s) of the language, keep your chin up.

I love you for this. I just started working on a quickdrop game for a class and have no idea where to begin. Thank you so much!
